Most of us lead far more meaningful lives than we know. Often, finding meaning is not about doing things differently; it is about seeing familiar things in new ways.

—Rachel Naomi Remen, My Grandfather’s Blessings

We sometimes wonder if our work is meaningful and makes a difference. Is changing twenty to thirty diapers a day meaningful work? You bet. The diaper change is perhaps one of the most important opportunities for bonding with an individual child. Our days may be filled with routines that appear inconsequential, but the reality is that each is significant, momentous, and important to the child. The hellos, transitions, diapering or toileting, outside time, singing, dancing, mealtimes, and napping, when given the attention they deserve, are meaningful activities. Do not for one minute diminish the importance and meaning of your work with young children.
