Gryphon House | Wednesday Word

Nothing without joy!

—Loris Malaguzzi, developer of the Reggio Emilia approach

Read that quote again, slowly this time, breathing every word and giving each word life: Nothing without joy! Nothing means that even the mundane, everyday routines deserve joy. Joy because you have the ability to do it, and that joy makes a difference to others. Simple hellos, cleaning of tables, putting away toys, a smile, a helping hand, changing diapers, mealtime conversations, nap time rituals— all deserve a joyful disposition. It is amazing how a joyful outlook can change your perception of a task and affect everyone around you. Joy is read in your eyes, body language, facial expression, and demeanor. Take a deep cleansing breath, and exhale joy in all you do today and always. Nothing without joy!

In loving memory of Gryphon House author Leanne Grace, MEd, we are sharing pieces of her inspirational writing every Wednesday. Leanne was the director of professional development at Hildebrandt Learning Centers and a lifelong advocate for early childhood education.  She inspired the early childhood community to prepare children as lifelong learners with her ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. One person can make a difference, and Leanne did just that. She will be sorely missed.
