Wednesday Word: Illusion

Gryphon House | Wednesday Word

It is an illusion that there are perfect teachers, perfect children, perfect families, perfect classrooms, and perfect days! Do not ever think that you will ever reach perfection, as that illusion will challenge your ability to notice and be present to the moment. Do not cloud your thinking and vision with illusions of what should be, but notice the now and find peace with what is before you. Illusions often become delusions of a newer and better tomorrow filled with deceptions: If I only had more materials in my classroom, if “that” child weren’t in my class, if I had more planning time, if that family would only pay more attention. . . Today, take a deep breath and open your eyes to what is present.

In loving memory of Gryphon House author Leanne Grace, MEd, we are sharing pieces of her inspirational writing every Wednesday. Leanne was the director of professional development at Hildebrandt Learning Centers and a lifelong advocate for early childhood education.  She inspired the early childhood community to prepare children as lifelong learners with her ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. One person can make a difference, and Leanne did just that. She will be sorely missed.
