Wednesday Word: Focus

Wednesday Word: Focus | Gryphon House

If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. —Maya Angelou, author, teacher, and civil rights activist

What you focus on, you get more of. It is amazing that how I choose to see things or what I focus on affects the world around me. I can view routines, such as diaper changes, as tiresome and something to get through, or I can choose to focus on routines as opportunities for intimate, one-on-one interactions. I can connect with just that child at that time. I can be present in that moment. Our days are filled with opportunities to focus on the positive, reframing circumstances as chances to teach and to learn. The power to choose my focus is in within my grasp.

Leanne Grace | Gryphon House

In loving memory of Gryphon House author Leanne Grace, MEd, we are sharing pieces of her inspirational writing every Wednesday. Leanne was the director of professional development at Hildebrandt Learning Centers and a lifelong advocate for early childhood education.  She inspired the early childhood community to prepare children as lifelong learners with her ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. One person can make a difference, and Leanne did just that. She will be sorely missed.
