Wednesday Word: Explanations | Gryphon House

No single explanation will ever contain the final answer for all time, for all hearers. There is always, ALWAYS more to learn. ―Orson Scott Card, Children of the Mind

Little Adrianne was explaining the process of making apples into cider while reviewing the photo documentation of our field trip. She paused to sip her apple juice then asked, “So, where does milk come from?” I replied, “Cows.” As I watched her process this information, her eyes widened, her mouth grimaced, and she yelled, “Nooooo!” Children’s thought processes and explanations are enlightening and often make a lot of sense. What explanations and definitions have children shared with you? Did you know, for example, that toothpaste is made of ground up teeth? Carrots come from a carrot maker. Flour comes from chickens (just check with the Little Red Hen). The sun—you have to drive through many night skies to get there. And the sky—well there is enough sky for everyone.

Leanne Grace Quotes | Gryphon House
In loving memory of Gryphon House author Leanne Grace, MEd, we are sharing pieces of her inspirational writing every Wednesday. Leanne was the director of professional development at Hildebrandt Learning Centers and a lifelong advocate for early childhood education.  She inspired the early childhood community to prepare children as lifelong learners with her ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. One person can make a difference, and Leanne did just that. She will be sorely missed.
