scrap paper and 1 piece of plain white paper for each child

crayons

blue and green watercolor paints

paintbrushes

Instructions

1. Pass around a
photograph of a
chameleon. Have the
children describe what
they see. What does it
look like? What color
is it? See if anyone
can guess what
kind of animal
it is.
2. Tell the children
they will be
learning about
chameleons. Explain
that a chameleon is a type
of lizard. It lives in many places around
the world, including rainforests and
deserts. It can change colors to blend
into its surroundings.
3. Read one of the children's books
listed to the left.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Show each child photographs of a snake, an alligator, and a chameleon. Can
the children identify the chameleon?
* Have each child tell you one thing she learned about chameleons.
