Materials

small resealable plastic bags (1 for each child)

plate

snack items: pretzels, crackers, fruit, and so on

Instructions

1. Ask the children to sit in a circle.
2. Explain that they are going to imagine animals they see in the middle of the
circle, but that they are going to have to work together to imagine the entire
animal.
3. Walk the children through the first round of the game so they understand,
then allow them to play through several rounds.
4. The first child begins the animal by saying: "The animal I see is..." They
complete the sentence with the name of an animal. For example, perhaps
they say, "The animal I see is a cat."
5. The next child must repeat that part, and add to it: "The animal I see is a cat
with orange fur."
6. The next child repeats and adds more: "The animal I see is a cat with orange
fur and a blue collar."
7. The description continues around the circle, with each child adding to the
sentence for as long as the children can remember and repeat the entire
sentence. Let the children help each other remember.
8. Once the children can no longer remember all of the description, have them
start over with a new animal.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Allow the children to explore their creative and memory skills further by
giving them paper and crayons and allowing them to attempt to draw some of
the animals they imagined together.
* How well do the children remember what the other children say?
