The most important thing you'll prepare this year isn't your classroom

As a new school year begins, classrooms across the country are coming to life. Shelves are being carefully organized, learning centers thoughtfully arranged, and bulletin boards prepared to welcome a new group of children. It's a season filled with anticipation, possibility and new ideas. Yet before the first child walks through the door, I'd like to pause and think about the people who make those welcoming classrooms possible.

Educators spend countless hours preparing environments where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to learn. They thoughtfully consider every detail from creating engaging learning experiences to fostering meaningful relationships that help children thrive. But while we invest so much energy preparing spaces for children, it's equally important to ask: How are we preparing and supporting the adults who will lead them?

The strongest classrooms are built on more than carefully chosen materials or well-designed lesson plans. They are built on educators who feel confident, connected, and grounded in their purpose. When teachers have opportunities to reflect on their practice, strengthen their skills, and reconnect with the "why" behind their work, they are better equipped to create the calm, inclusive, and joyful learning environments every child deserves.
