Instructions
Cut the outline of a large phone out of the cardboard.
l Cut one small outline of a phone for each child.
l Write the numbers zero to nine, as written on a phone, on the large and small
phone cutouts.
l Collect the children's home phone numbers from the children's families prior
to this activity.
l Write each child's name and number on one phone cutout.
What To Do
1. Talk with the children about telephones. Ask the children about who they
have talked to on the phone. Explain why it is important that all the children
know their phone numbers.
2. Show the children the large and small phone cutouts. Give the children their
individualized phones. Help them read their numbers at the top.
3. Sing the following song with the children. Recite your phone number, hitting
the buttons on the large phone to reinforce the connection. Encourage the
children to do the same on their small phone cutouts as they sing:

There are ten numbers, there are ten numbers,
There are ten numbers to call my home.
xxx-xxx-xxxx (children recite their phone numbers)
Are the numbers for my phone.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children recite their phone numbers?
l Can the children touch the correct numbers on their phone cutouts as they
say their phone numbers?
l Can the children explain why it is important to know their phone numbers?
