Materials

9-pocket clear pages (used to collect baseball cards), one for each child

hole punch

double-sided tape

folders (2 pockets with 3-prongs in the middle), one for each child

card stock or index cards

Instructions

1. Punch three holes on the left side of the clear pocket pages.
2. Using double-sided tape, tape each clear pocket page to the front of a
folder, making sure that the pockets are facing out. Make one for each
child.
3. Cut card stock into cards that will fit into the pockets of the pocket page.
4. Starting in September, have each child draw a picture for that month on
a card and slip it into the first pocket of her folder.
5. Continue this each month, labeling each card with the month. Children
can draw a picture that relates to a holiday or theme for that month, or
they could draw a monthly self-portrait.
6. These are great for seeing the children's development throughout the
year. Fill the journals with assessments, art work, journal pages, or
pictures from the year.
7. The two pockets on the inside of the folder are handy for extra items that
will not fit in the journal.
8. It's helpful to add a note on the inside cover explaining to the parents
the pictures on the cover. These are great to use during conferences with
parents.
