Materials
Two 8" (20 cm) square wooden geoboards painted black, with grids of small head nails positionedabout 1" (3 cm) apart
Yarn cut in 24" (60 cm) lengths with a small loop tied at each end
Instructions
1. Demonstrate how to slip the loop at one end of the yarn over any nail on the geoboard, thenwrap the yarn around other nails on the board, forming a design or shape.
2. When you reach the end of the yarn, slip the loop over the last nail in your design to hold theyarn in place.
3. Invite the children to take a turn at the geoboard. Ask them to duplicate your design on thesecond geoboard using the same color of yarn.
4. When a child's turn is finished, remove the yarn from the board and invite the next child.
5. Switch roles with the children, inviting them to create a design that you will duplicate on theother geoboard, or ask them to work in pairs.More to doGames: Create cards showing a picture or shape and challenge the children to duplicate it on theboard.Language: Have the children weave alphabet letters and corresponding words on thegeoboards.More art: Use two or more colors and different lengths of yarn on each board.
