earthworms

plastic shovel

leaf mold or rotting leaves

water

clear plastic container, such as fish bowl or large flower vase

tape

black paper to wrap around container and block out light

Instructions

* Consider creating gestures that go with the words of the song.
What to Do
1. Teach the children "The Recycling Song" by repeating it several times:

(Tune: "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")
We will help keep our Earth green.
We will help keep our Earth clean.
Paper, plastic, cans of tin,
Toss them in the recycling bin.
Plastic bottles, newspaper too,
Recycling's good for the Earth and you.
2. Have the children join you in singing the
song. Include appropriate gestures, if you wish. Talk
about things that are recyclable.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Can each of the children sing the song along with the rest of the class?
* Can the children identify different items that can be recycled?
