1. Look through old books or workbooks for 13 brightly colored pictures of sets of woodland animals. For example, find one bear, two foxes, three raccoons, four owls, five skunks, and so on to thirteen.
2. Cut tagboard or poster board to make 13 set cards approximately 3 1/2 " x 4 3/4 ".
3. Cut tagboard or poster board to make 26 number cards approximately 1 1/2 " x 4 3/4 " (for 13 numeral cards and 13 number name cards).
4. Cut out the sets of animals and glue each set to a separate 3 1/2 " x 4 3/4 " card using a glue stick.
5. Cut out or print your own numerals and number names on the 1 1/2 " x 3 3/4 " cards.
6. Laminate all three sets of cards for durability, if desired.
7. Prepare for flannel board use by gluing felt to the back of the cards using rubber cement.
8. To do the activity, the child first sequences the numeral cards and, if able, the number name cards on the flannel board.
9. Then the child matches each woodland animal set card to the corresponding numeral and number name card on the flannel board.
