Materials

1. Tie a clothesline outside on a windy day. If doing the activity inside, hang

the clothesline near a fan.

2. To illustrate the effect of the wind, have each child place some paint on a

piece of paper. Take the papers outside or place in front of a fan set on

high.

3. Clip the papers to the clothesline and watch what happens to the paint.

4. Let dry. Discuss what happened to the paint.

Instructions

1. Place a blob of white fingerpaint in the center of each child's paper.
2. Encourage the children to use combs to swirl the paint on their papers,
pretending the combs are the wind.
3. Lead a class discussion on wind. "How does it feel?" "Is it soft?" "Hard?"
"Can it cool you?" "Can it hurt you?" "How does it sound?"
