Instructions

1. Gather the children for story time. Read the story and talk about the things that
each color said or drew.
2. Pass the crayons around the circle and have each child choose one.
3. Say, for example, "I see you have chosen blue. If you were a blue crayon, what
would you say?"
4. Write their responses down on chart paper.
5. Invite the children to draw a
picture with their chosen color.
Have each child dictate a sentence
or two about the picture and write
it underneath the drawing.
6. Attach the children's pictures
together in book fashion and read
it to the children afterwards. Place
the book in the class library for
future reading.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l When shown a color, can the children name objects that are the same color?
l When drawing, do the children use appropriate colors (such as blue for sky or
water, green for grass) to represent real objects? Do they use colors in a
creative way?
l If the children use nontraditional colors in a drawing, such as drawing purple
grass, can the children articulate why they did so?
