Materials
construction paper
child-safe scissors
Velcro
die-cut letters
photographs of each child
owls cut from construction
paper, or purchased
Instructions
1. Make two sets of
matching picture
cards. Find
pictures of or
draw identical
things; for
example two cats,
two balls, two
apples. Glue them
onto 4" x 6" or
larger cards or
paper and write
the word
underneath the
picture.
2. Tape one set on
the floor in an
open area.
3. Give each child a picture card. Tell them their cards are their "tickets."
The idea is for them to travel to the place that matches their ticket.
4. Point out the words underneath the pictures, but do not expect the
children to learn the letters or spelling of the words. The idea is to
expose them to the written words.
5. When you say, "Go," the children look for the picture on the floor that
matches the one in their hand.
6. When they make a match, ask them to stand on their matching picture.
7. When they are finished, encourage the children to show and or tell what
they did.
8. Give each child a different picture and play again.
