1. Ahead of time, cut out one paper cookie for each child and at least five
extra using a cookie pattern (circle shape).
2. On the back of each cookie, draw a smiley face or sad face. (Laminate, if
desired, for durability.) Make at least four to eight cookies with sad faces.
3. Place all the cookies in the plastic jar.
4. Pick four to eight children (depending on class size) to choose who may
have "stolen the cookie."
5. Pass the cookie jar around and instruct each child to remove one cookie.
6. Encourage the children to keep the cookie side up (smiley or sad face
down) until you tell them to turn it over.
7. After all the children have removed cookie, ask them to peek at their
cookies and not let anyone see whether their cookie has a smiley or sad
face.
8. Instruct the children to turn the cookies back over.
9. The children who were picked earlier are the guessers. The guessers
should say, "_____ stole a cookie from the cookie jar." The child whose
name is called should reply, "Who me?" The guesser should answer, "Yes,
you." The child should say, "Not me" if he has a smiley face or "Yes, me" if
he has a sad face.
10. The child who guesses correctly exchanges places with the person who
had the sad face cookie. Those who guess incorrectly also exchange
places with those children left that have the cookies with the sad faces.
