Instructions

1. Talk about the sense of taste and how some things are bitter and some things
are sweet. Explain to the children that they are going to make lemonade.
2. Give each child a lemon and a small cup. Cut the lemons into quarters (adult
only).
3. Encourage the children to squeeze the quarters of lemon into their cups.
4. Ask them to sip a bit of the lemon juice and describe how it tastes.
5. Help the children fill the cup with water and stir with a spoon. Again, ask the
children to try it and describe the taste.
6. Brainstorm with the group how to make the drink sweeter.
7. Demonstrate how to measure sugar into their drinks until it tastes just right.
8. Ask the children what happens to the sugar when stirred in the water.
9. Drink the lemonade with crackers or cookies, if desired.
