Instructions
1. Give each child a clean, empty tall potato chip canister. Encourage the children to experiment with the sound made by putting different objects in the can and shaking it.2. Help the children wrap construction paper around the cans and glue or tape it along the overlapping edge.3. Ask the children to put their selection of items into the can.4. Place two streamers over the top of each can and cap it.5. Encourage the children to decorate the sides of their cans with markers.6. Learn about musical instruments and how their sounds are made.Field Trips: Visit a high school band rehearsal.Science: Play Sound Matching Cans: Collect ten matching plastic containers or film canisters. Create matching pairs by putting each of the following items into two containers: rice, jingle bells, wooden beads, bottle caps, and Styrofoam pieces. Spread a thin line of glue on the inside edges of the lids and seal the containers. Encourage a child to shake a container and listen to the sound, then find the matching container. Put colors or stickers on the bottom of the canisters so the children can self-correct.
