Instructions

On one sheet of paper, write "Preschool Street" so that it resembles a street
sign.
l Number the various house pictures or outlines from 1 to 10.
l Set out the "Preschool Street" sign and put the house pictures or outlines out
in a random order.
What To Do
1. Begin by talking with the children about where they live. Ask them if they
know their addresses or know their apartment numbers.
2. Talk with the children about the importance of addresses, explaining they are
how people find specific locations.
3. Show the children the houses on "Preschool Street." Say each number with
the children. Ask the children if there is something odd about the number.
Explain that the numbers are out of order, and that addresses need to be in
order to be useful.
4. Challenge the children to put the houses in the correct order.
Note: Consider providing a correctly ordered list of numbers the children
can refer to if they have trouble putting the numbers in order.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
l For more advanced children, try using addresses that have two or three
numbers in them.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children identify the numbers on the houses?
l Can the children order the numbers from 1 to 10?
l Do the children understand the function of addresses?
