Materials

Empty cereal boxes, one for each child

Glue

Tape

Crayons/markers

Black and white construction paper rectangles and squares

Scissors

Brown construction paper

Instructions

1. Cut out pictures from magazines, old photos, or panels from empty toy containers
or cardboard food boxes (cereal boxes work well). You may want to
glue the magazine pictures onto construction paper or light oak tag.
2. Encourage the children to examine the pictures.
3. Ask the children to choose a picture to make their own puzzles.
4. Encourage the children to randomly cut up their pictures.
5. Ask the children to reassemble their puzzles, picture side up.
6. Then, ask the children to turn their puzzles over and reassemble them without
using a picture to guide them.
7. If time allows, encourage the children to exchange bags and try other puzzles.
