Materials

Magazines Scissors

Clear contact paper or laminate 3 manila folders

Markers, crayons

Instructions

1. In advance, cut pictures of various forms of transportation from magazines or let thechildren cut them out. Laminate the pictures.

2. Decorate three manila folders, each with one of the following scenes: ground, air and water.

3. Have children sort the pictures into the proper folder. The children hypothesize what wouldhappen if a particular vehicle tried to travel elsewhere. For example, ask "What would happenif a car tried to drive on the water?" or "Why can't a boat fly?"More to doArt: Children draw or paint pictures showing air, water and ground scenes and the appropriateforms of transportation.Music: Have children sing and act out "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," pretending they are cars bymoving about on hands and knees, and flying like an airplane by holding their arms out likewings. Substitute appropriate words to the tune, for example: drive, drive, drive your car, or fly,fly, fly your airplane.
