Materials

Scarf, fabric or washcloth

Drawstring bag

Flashlight

Instructions

1. Put the fabric into the bag and draw it closed.

2. Let the children guess the color of the cloth. Allow them to feel it, smell it, listen to it, but not see it.

3. Take them into a very dark room and wait for their eyes to adjust.

4. Pull out the cloth. Can they see the color?5. Admit a small amount of light. Does that help?6. Shine the flashlight on the cloth. In the absence of light, there is no color. * Experiment with mixing colors and adding white and black. * Try doing puzzles, stringing beads and drawing while blindfolded.
