Instructions

1. Use a piece of chart paper to make a daily schedule. Place the words or pictures in order on the chart paper (for example, circle time, snack time, center time, and so on).

2. Attach a paper clock next to each picture or word on the schedule. Place the hour and minute hands to the time the activity begins (circle time: 9:30). Print the time on a piece under the picture.

3. Place a real clock by the schedule.

4. When it is time for a new activity, talk about the time on the clock and compare it to the real clock. Look ahead at what will happen at various times throughout the day.

5. Place battery-operated clocks low enough throughout the room so the children can see more clearly the actual time and match it to the paper clocks. The children will begin noticing when it is time to change activities and begin to identify the times.More to do Language and Literacy: Read The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle. Use a paper clock and have the children change the time shown on it to match the pages in the book.
