Instructions

On days when a child in your class has a birthday, transition the child (and the
rest of the class) to group or circle time by singing the following to the tune of
"Do You Know the Muffin Man?"
Oh, (child's name) is the birthday boy (or girl),
The birthday boy, the birthday boy,
Oh, (child's name) is the birthday boy,
On (date of birthday).
We all know how old he (or she) is,
How old he is, how old he is.
We all know how old he is,
He is (number) years old.
Yay! (child's name)! (clap the same number of times as the child is old)
More to do Literacy: Make a class book titled, "What Did You Do on Your Birthday?" Each
child can illustrate something she did on her birthday. Take dictation using the
child's own words.
