Instructions
1. Decide which words you want to focus on. Cut out pictures from greeting
cards, magazines, and so on that depict these words.
2. Use sticky putty to attach the pictures on a wall where children congregate,
making sure to place them at children's eye level.
3. When the children have to wait, ask them to stand next to a particular
picture. For example, ask Sue to stand by the wagon, Billy next to the
motorcycle, and so on.
4. After the children find the picture they are to stand next to, they can tell you
something about the picture. For example, "My wagon has wheels" or "A
motorcycle can go fast."
More to do
Language: Use the pictures as a natural stimulant for identification and
description activities.
Math: Place a large variety of pictures on the wall and use them for other
activities such as categorizing. For example, ask the children to point to two
pictures of food; find something to wear when it is cold; point to something that
is a toy; or find one object to use in the bathroom.
