Learn Every Day About Colors

Materials

circles (7" to 8") cut out of colored card stock (three or four different colors)

yarn

hole punch

large indoor space or outdoor play yard

Instructions

1. Talk with the children about the homes they live in. Ask them to describe the homes, or to imagine different kinds of homes. Show the children the pictures of different kinds of homes.
2. Invite each child to select one of the pictures. 3. Pass out construction paper. 4. Ask the children to glue their house pictures to the construction paper.
Next, tell the children to spend a little time imagining what kind of
family might live in this house. 5. Provide markers and crayons, and encourage the children to draw the
families they imagine might live in their homes. As they draw, ask the children questions about their families, and encourage the children to think up stories about the families. (Also consider having several pictures of people cut out of magazines that the children can simply glue to their construction paper, if they are having trouble drawing their families.)
6. When the children finish, ask them to name their families and then describe their families to other children in the class.

Were the children able to imagine rich story worlds about their families? How well were the children able to glue and draw their family home scenes?
