Instructions

1. While the children are waiting for story time, put a set of story cards in
random order on the rug or chalk rail so all of the children can see the cards.
2. Ask the children to think of which picture comes first in the story while their
friends are finishing their activities and coming to the rug.
3. When almost all of them have joined the group, ask one child to find the first
picture of the story and put it all the way on the left of the group of cards.
4. Continue with another child until the story is in the correct order from left to
right.
5. Ask a child to tell the story from start to finish. Repeat with another set of
cards as time allows.
Tip: For self-checking, number the cards on the back.
6. If desired, collect groups of story cards that focus on unit themes, such as
seeds, weather, and holidays, to match the theme you are teaching.
7. As the children become comfortable with five-card stories, find stories with
more cards.
More to do Art: Invite the children to illustrate a story they like using four to six different
pictures. Mount the drawings on cards to use for the sequencing activity.
Math: For math skills, order five pictures of triangles from smallest to largest.
