Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni

Instructions

1. Have all children stand in a
circle. Ask one volunteer to
start the game; give her the
beanbag.
2. The child with the beanbag
throws it to a child of her
choice and calls out a color.
3. The child who catches the
beanbag calls out an object
that is the same color.
4. The child who caught the
beanbag now gets a turn
throwing.
5. Continue until every child has had a turn.
6. If you "run out" of colors, repeat colors but challenge the children to think of
new objects.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l How well are the children matching the colors of objects to the correct color
names?
l Are the children responding well to questions from peers in this large-group
situation?
