Instructions
Cut 20 cards in the shapes of teeth, or draw tooth outlines on several
individual cards.
l Write a number from 1 to 20 on each individual card. (Alternatively,
write the numbers one to five on four sets of individual cards.)
l Cut out many small squares to serve as teeth.
What To Do
1. Begin by talking with the children
about their teeth. Discuss how
important their teeth are, what they
use them for, and so on.
2. Ask the children if they have ever
been to the dentist. Explain that the
dentist is an important member of
the community.
3. Show the children the large numbered tooth cutouts. Explain that most
children between the ages of three and five have 20 teeth.
4. Count the large individual tooth cutouts aloud for the children,
challenging the children to count along.
5. Set out the large numbered tooth cutouts as well as the small cutout
tooth squares.
6. Challenge the children to place the corresponding number of tooth
squares on the large numbered tooth cutouts.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Do the children know what a dentist does?
l Can the children place the correct number of tooth squares on the
numbered tooth cutouts?
