Instructions

1. Gather the children and explain that you are going to take them on a fall or winter or springwalk. Explain that along the way, they are going to concentrate on their sense of hearing.

2. Generate a discussion about the different kinds of sounds they might hear on their walk.

3. Write down what the children think they might hear4. Head out on your walk. Record the sounds of leaves crunching, birds chirping, twigs snapping, etc.

5. When you return to the classroom, play the tape for thechildren and see if they can identify the various sounds.

6. Look at the list of things the children thought theymight hear. Compare this list to their actual experience.
