Instructions

1. Read a number of books or stories about feelings to your class over a period of time. See thesuggestions under "Related books" below.

2. Distribute paper and an assortment of drawing tools to the children.

3. Tell them that you are going to play a selection of music and that they are to make a drawing ordesign that reflects the feelings they experience when the music is playing.

4. When they are finished, ask the children to describe how their drawing portrays their feelings.More to doMath: To introduce the concept of a Venn Diagram to the children, draw a happy face and a sadface on the board, overlapping them. When the children listen to a story or piece of music, askthem whether it makes them feel happy, sad, or a mixture of both, then tally their responses onthe diagram accordingly.Movement: Listen to a variety of classical selections that elicit a wide range of emotions anddance to the music with scarves; provide a mirror so the children can watch their own expressions.
