Materials

pictures of animals that hatch from eggs

different eggs or egg shells (emu, ostrich, duck, chicken)

plastic sandwich bags

magnifying glass

Instructions

1. Show children the different eggs. Put the eggs in sandwich bags so
children do not handle the eggs directly (to avoid germs).
2. Talk about the sizes, shapes, and colors of the eggs.
3. Encourage the children to guess what animal came out of each egg.
4. Place the eggs on a table for children to view and examine with a
magnifying glass.
5. Put pictures of animals next to the eggs and let the children match the
animals to the eggs.
More to do Art:Wash hard-boiled or eggs with the contents blown out. Let the children
use tempera paint to decorate their eggs.
