Materials

Leaves nature items (rocks, pinecones, acorns, pebbles, twigs, grass) plastic bugs sand and water table plastic tweezers

Instructions

1. In advance, gather a lot of leaves, nature items, and plastic bugs. Place them in the sand and water table.

2. Hide grass, pinecones, rocks, plastic bugs, acorns, pebbles, and twigs among the leaves.

3. Encourage the children to use tweezers to lift up the leaves and find the nature items underneath.

4. After every child has used the area, discuss what they found hidden under the leaves.

5. To extend the activity, go to a park for a leaf walk. Give the children magnifiers and encourage them to look under leaves and find out what is hidden.
