Instructions

* Place a large piece of plain poster board on the wall and draw a graph. Write
the names of each child along the bottom of the graph. Down the side, write
numbers from 10 to 60.
* Draw a scale on a sheet of copy paper and copy enough for each child.
What to Do
1. Use the scale to weigh each child in the class. Write down their weights on a
piece of paper.
2. With the children, make a bar graph so the children can see the different
weights in the classroom. Explain what the graph shows.
3. Say, "This is how much everyone weighs. How many children weigh more
than 40 pounds? How many children weigh less than 40 pounds?" Compare
weights. "How much does the whole class weigh?"
4. Give each child a scale sheet, crayons, and felt. Ask the child to color his paper
scale. Help each child print his weight at the top and his name at the bottom
of the paper.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Ask the children to say their weights as they print them in their books.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
* What can the children tell you about their scales?
* Can each child tell you how much he weighs?
* Can the children tell you how much the class weighs together?
