Materials

  • Basket
  • Weather-appropriate clothing, such as a raincoat, gloves, sunglasses, and scarves

What to do

1. Put different weather-appropriate clothing in a basket.

2. Each day during Circle Time, select a child to be the weather reporter.

3. Ask the child to pick out the appropriate clothing for the weather from the basket and put it on.

4. The rest of the children sing, "What is the weather, weather, weather? What is the weather report today?" (Tune: "Mamma's Little Baby Loves Shortening Bread")

5. The weather reporter describes the weather. For example, if it is a rainy day, she will say, "Today we are seeing some clouds outside. I think we will need our rain coats and umbrellas." Then the class will sing, "Sara says it's rainy, rainy, rainy. Sara says the weather is rainy today."

6. Pick one child each day until every one has a turn.
