What to do

1. Cut out the picture weather forecast from the newspaper each week and post it on the bulletin board. (You might want to do this activity only when the weather conditions in your area are most variable, or you might want to do this daily or weekly throughout the year.)

2. Choose a child each day or week to be the "weather reporter."

3. Give the child a toy microphone to hold (often available at dollar stores) and have her go to the window and report the weather of the day.

4. Then ask the child to look at the forecast posted and report the forecast.

5. Look at the previous day's forecast and ask the children to determine if it was correct. Talk about the following day's forecast. This also helps children understand the meaning of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

6. Let the child use a marker to fill in a square on a classroom weather graph.

7. At the end of each month, encourage the children to count how many sunny, rainy, snowy, or cloudy days occurred that month.
