Materials

4 or 5 plastic swimming poolsmarblessmall rubber ducksrubber canning ringspermanent markerspongesgallon milk jugs

Instructions

1. Fill the pools with 3" of water.

2. Pour a couple of bags of marbles into the first pool. Let a few children at atime remove the marbles with their toes. Ask them to keep track of howmany they pull out. Record the numbers.

3. Write numerals on the bottom of the ducks and put the ducks in the secondpool. Invite the children to toss canning rings around the ducks. When a childgets a ring on a duck, he reads the number on the bottom of the duck.

4. Put out several sponges along with gallon jugs. Encourage the children to fillthe gallon jugs by plunging the sponges into the pools, then squeezing themout into the gallon jugs.
