writing paper
art paper

colored pencils or crayons
Instructions
1. At the beginning of the year, make art journals for each child. (Depending on
the skill level of the children, you might want to let them create their own
journals.)
2. Staple together a lot of paper and add a cover for each book.
3. Encourage the children to decorate and label their book covers.
4. Keep these journals in the Art Station at all times. The children are free to
draw in their journals at any time, especially during transitions.
5. Explain that they are to use the pages in sequence to draw or write anything
they would like. Some may want to draw pictures and some may want to
practice writing their names or letters.
6. Whenever they finish with a page, they can stamp the date on it.
7. Let the children take their journals home at the end of the year. This is a nice
way for parents to see their child's artistic or writing development, and it is
all done at the child's pace.
