What to do
1. On a windy day, give each child a clipboard, marker, and paper.
2. Bring the children outside, sit on the ground, and watch the wind moving objects around you.
3. Talk with the children about how they know the wind is blowing today.
4. Encourage the children to draw pictures of what they see blowing in the wind.
5. Have the children write a description of their picture below it, or ask them to dictate a description
so that you can record it for them.
More to do
Games: In "Lion Wind, Lamb Wind," one person calls out "Lion Wind" or "Lamb Wind" and the children
mimic the wind, running quickly or moving lazily, with streamers in their hands.
More art: Make a windsock or a brightly colored fan.
Outdoors: Bring some streamers outside; hold them up high and down low to see where the
wind is stronger. Hang a wind chime outside the classroom window.
