Instructions

* April is Keep America Beautiful Month; Earth Day is April 20th.
1. At the end of March, tell the children that April is Keep America Beautiful
Month and April 20th is Earth Day. Talk about recycling and the
importance of not littering.
2. Bury the various objects (leaves, orange rinds, glass, seeds, beans, and
plastic objects) in separate pots.
3. Label each pot with the name of what it contains.
4. Water the pots daily.
5. After a month (on or near Earth Day), dig up the soil in the pots and
remove the buried objects. Encourage the children to observe the
objects.
6. Discuss the importance of recycling, decomposition, and proper garbage
disposal.
