* Put up a clothesline at an appropriate level.
* Mark clothespins with numbers 1 to 10.
What to Do
1. Engage the children in a discussion about different ways of doing laundry.
Show the children pictures of clothes hanging on a clothesline.
2. Set out the clothespins. Show the children how to open the clothespins and
use them to hang things on the line.
3. Get the children to lay out the clothespins in numerical order, letting younger
children match a printed number sequence.
4. Mix up the clothespins again and ask the children to pin the clothes on the line
in numeric order.
5. Hang the paintings to dry, instead of clothes.
6. In warm weather, children will enjoy washing the clothes first and hanging
them outdoors to dry.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Use real baby clothing rather than doll's clothes, reassuring the children that
everybody wears clothes and needs to wash them.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
* Can the children manipulate the clothespins to hang up the clothing?
* Can the children sequence the clothespins in numerical order?
* Do the children understand why clothes need to be hung up?
