Instructions

Part One (Teacher Preparation)
1. You will need two containers of the same size to make one block. Halfpint
containers are good for smaller hands but for toddlers, you can also
use pint, quart, and half-gallon sizes. Ask parents, friends, or other
teachers to save their containers.
Note: This activity works with wax-coated paper milk cartons but not
with plastic milk cartons.
2. Measure across the bottom of a milk carton. Whatever that number of
inches is, measure that amount up the side of the container.
3. Draw a line that many inches from the bottom across all four sides of
the container.
4. Cut around this line. Use this same procedure for each container.
5. Slide two containers together so that the bottom is at opposite ends
from each other. You now have a cube.
6. Cover the cube with contact paper.
Part Two (Children Play with the Blocks)
1. Give the blocks to the children to use in their play.
