Materials

1 carrot 1 beet1 red cabbage Grater3 sandwich-size resealable plastic bags 3 clear cups

Strips of various fabrics: cotton, wool felt, synthetics Warm water

Instructions

1. Grate about 1/8 cup each of the carrot, beet and cabbage. Keep them separate.

2. Put each into a resealable plastic bag and add 1/4 cup (40 ml) of warm water.

3. Press and squish for 2 to 3 minutes, until the water is colored.

4. Empty each colored liquid into separate clear cups.

5. Use cotton strips, wool felt strips and synthetic strips of material. Dip each type of cloth into all 3 dyes. Measure which type of cloth absorbed the most and the least.More to doArt: You can use these vegetable liquids as watercolor paints and discuss with the children which vegetable made dark colored paint, light colored paint, etc.Snack: The children can also use the liquid to color hardboiled eggs by adding 1/4 cup (60 ml) vinegar to each colored liquid. Enjoy the colored eggs for snack.
