Materials

toy trucksrulerspapercrayons or markerstape (optional)

Instructions

1. Gather all the toy trucks from the classroom.

2. Ask the children to measure the length of one of the trucks, showing them how to put one edge of the ruler at one edge of a truck to measure accurately.

3. Ask another child to write the number of inches on a slip of paper and place the paper near the truck. (Optional: tape the measurement to the truck.)4. Continue until all the trucks are measured.

5. Discuss the results with the children. Ask them to identify the longest truck and the shortest truck. "Were any the same number of inches?"6. Put the trucks in order from longest to shortest. Then mix them up and ask a child to put them in order again.
