Instructions

1. Explain to the children that each state has a special bird they call their "state
bird."
2. Show the children pictures of the local state bird and provide the children with
some information about the bird. Ask the children to describe the bird and
identify its colors, as well as its beak, wings, feathers, and claws.
3. Display the pictures of other birds that are common in the local area.
4. Create a pattern with the pictures of the birds. Challenge the children to
identify which bird is their state bird.
5. Provide the children with copies of the pictures of the various birds, and invite
them to match the pattern of birds, as well as make their own patterns.
