Materials

colored poster board (red, green, yellow)

markers

pencils or craft sticks

sidewalk chalk

tape

plastic plates

Instructions

l Make circles on the board and color them in these colors: red, orange, yellow,
green, blue, and purple.
What to Do
1. Place the 9" paper circles on the chalk or
penholder below the colored circles drawn on
the board.
2. Choose a child to erase one colored circle
while the others chant the following rhyme,
naming the color being erased:
Disappear, Circle by Susan Oldham Hill
Red circle, red circle, disappear! (child erases
red circle)
Red circle, you are gone, I fear!
Now we see you reappear! (child holds up matching red circle)
3. Ask the child to hold up the matching circle as the children chant the last line.
Repeat until all the circles are erased.

l To extend this activity, print with round cookie cutters in rainbow colors of
paint.

l Can the children name the colors of the paper circles, and match them to a
