Materials

Paint (liquid tempera) Shallow trays

Small toy vehicles with moving wheels Paper

Instructions

1. Pour paint into shallow trays.

2. Set out a variety of toy vehicles and paper.

3. Have the children roll the vehicles in the paint and then "drive" them on the paper.

4. Compare the tracks made by the different vehicles. Point out that some are wider or thinnerthan others, and note any differences in tread patterns that you see.

5. Encourage children to make straight or curvy lines by moving the cars in different ways.More to doOutdoors: Take a walk outside and look at tires on cars and trucks. * Ride bikes/tricyclesthrough puddles and observe the tracks.
