Materials

4 boxes

spring items: garden trowel, galoshes, rain cap

summer items: sunglasses, swim goggles, beach towel

fall items: rake, jacket, scarf, football

winter items: hat, mittens, earmuffs

Instructions

l At the top of the sheet of paper, make a box with the question "What
to Wear on a Rainy Day?"
l In the center of the paper, make a large circle. Glue the picture of the
rain cloud there, and draw five lines out from the circle.
What To Do
1. Ask the children to gather in a group on the floor. Talk with the
children about how spring is often a rainy part of the year. Ask the
children if they can remember rainy days in spring. Mention the saying
"April showers bring May flowers."
2. Show the children the "What to Wear on a Rainy Day?" sheet, as well
as the images of children wearing clothes that are good and bad to
wear in the rain.
3. Challenge the children to choose the images that show clothing good
to wear in a spring rain. Ask the children to name those articles of
clothing.
4. As the children identify the correct articles of clothing, write the names
of the clothing on the chart, and attach the images to the chart as well.
Spell out each name for the children, and ask them to repeat the letters
and the names.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Do the children understand that the spring can be an especially rainy
time of the year?
l Can the children identify and name weather-appropriate clothing?
