Materials
12" (30 cm) strips of cotton muslin, 1" (2.5 cm) wide, prewashed
Bowls or buckets for dye
Food coloring, as many colors as you desire
Water
Rubber or latex gloves
Outdoor wire fence or chicken wire loom
Instructions
1. Tie each strip with two knots that are tight enough to resist the dye, but loose enough to untie later.
2. Mix food color and water in bowls or buckets.
3. Allow children to dip the muslin strips into the first color.
4. Squeeze the excess dye out of the muslin into the bowl or bucket.
5. Repeat in at least one more color (you may want to use primary colors only).
6. Hang to dry.
7. Untie the knots when the strips are dry.
8. Weave the strips into a fence or loom.
